D-Case of the Week, April Wk4: The SEC

The Securities and Exchange Commission was chosen because as the 2008 financial crisis was developing, top SEC employees and contractors were using government computers on official time to view pornography, according to an SEC inspector general. Of those employees, 17 of the 33 employees were senior officials whose salaries ranged from $100,000 to $222,000.

The D-List: April Week 4

Goldman Sachs Execs - While they may have been acting within the law (may have been), they clearly are money grubbing, money above all else d-cases that appear to be ripped from the movie Wall Street. Greed.

Tito Ortiz - for (allegedly) beating his (now) ex-girlfriend and former adult film star Jenna Jameson and then blaming the incident on Jameson because of her OxyCotin addiction. That being said, Jenna Jameson probably isn’t blameless in the whole situation and maybe there is some truth to her addiction….maybe they should both just be nominated.
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2010/04/tito-ortiz-jenna-jameson-make-fight-public/1

USC Football (Pete Carroll) - for being found to violate NCAA rules for retaining a paid consultant to attend practices and watch games. Not so coincidentally, this comes after Pete Carroll skipped town for an NFL job in Seattle.
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-coach-20100427,0,4256103.story

Jeff Ireland, Dolphins’ GM - for asking former Oklahoma State and now Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver Dez Bryant during the pre-NFL draft interviews, if his mother was a prostitute. The point of the interviews is to ask provocative questions and see how the prospective players respond, but this is probably going a little far.
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2010/04/should-nfl-executives-be-able-to-ask-inappropriate-questions/1

John Ortega, Colorado Sherriff’s Deputy - for using a taser on 30 high school students. Many of the students asked to be tased so they would know what it felt like, so naturally Ortega though there could be nothing wrong with such an experience. The school superintendent said she didn’t know the stun gun was being used and that it wasn’t an authorized activity.

Gordon Brown, current Prime Minister of Britain - The Labour leader was meeting voters in Rochdale when he encountered 66 year-old Gillian Duffy, who peppered him with questions about immigration, the national debt and tax in front of television cameras. Immediately afterwards, Brown got into his car and was driven away but was still wearing a microphone, allowing broadcasters to pick up his subsequent discussion with an aide. "That was a disaster," Brown said. "Should never have put me with that woman -- whose idea was that?" He added: "She was just a sort of bigoted woman." Duffy, a lifelong Labour supporter, said Brown's comments were "very upsetting". So yeah, he's a D-Case for his comments, for the fact that they were made about someone who is a supporter of his party, and most of all for not turning off his microphone and letting people hear them.

Kei Kamara, soccer player - for incredible incompetence. Basically he has an unbelievably easy shot at an empty net for a goal, but he managed to screw it up and knock the ball into the goal with his hand, which caused it to be disallowed of course. It's hard to put this into words, you just need to watch the video to see how amazingly impossible it was for him to screw it up (and yet, he did).

The Official D-Song?

Just when you thought you wouldn't hear anymore from Scott Stapp and/or Creed...

D-Case of the Week, April Wk3: Matthew Clemmens, Philadelphia Phillies Fan

for intentionally vomiting on a little girl and her father at a game last week between the Phillies and the Nationals. Many unruly fans sitting in the area of off duty officer Michael Vangelo and his two daughters (ages 16 and 11), were escorted from the ballpark for their behavior. Clemmens, who was part of another group of unruly fans, decided to get involved by placing himself behind Michael Vangelo's 11 year old daughter's seat, intentionally gagging himself, and projectile vomiting all over her and her father. Clemmens then continued vomiting all over people as they wrestled him to the ground until security could apprehend him.

Joakim Noah - for bagging on the city of Cleveland, saying it’s “bad” and “sucks”, after having to spend an off day there in between game 1 and 2 of their first round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers: “What's so good about Cleveland?...You like it? You think Cleveland is cool? I've never heard anyone say, 'I'm going to Cleveland on vacation.'" To be fair, Noah did back up his talk with some game posting 25 points and 13 rebounds in game 2, though the Bulls still lost.

D-Case of the Week, April Wk2: Barack Obama

For being an outspoken White Sox fan (that alone is not the reason) and being entirely unable to name a single favorite White Sox player when up in the broadcast booth after throwing out the first pitch on opening day for the Washington Nationals. His response to the question went something like this: "You know uh...I...I thought that ...uh...you know...The truth is a lot of the Cubs I like too! But, uh...I did not become a Sox fan until I moved to Chicago. Because I uh...I was growing up in Hawaii so I ended up actually being an Oakland A's fan..." On top of that, he referred to the White Sox ballpark as Cominskey Park (actual name: Comiskey)…and apparently it isn’t the first time he’s done this.

Milton Bradley - for flipping off fans that were heckling him

Rally, The O-Royals Mascot - for his stupid antics in-between innings at O-Royals games. Stupid things such as “hypnotizing” the umpire, using his “mind-reader” which is skillfully crafted from a garbage-can lid and a wooden stick, and winning a staged wedding proposal face-off between himself and his possibly d-case-ier sidekick.
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mv2FSH06-R4

Indie Hipsters from Williamsburg - The indie hipsters living in the suburb of Williamsburg were too busy taking self portraits with their camera to fill out their census. If you are unfamiliar with this nauseating phenomenon known as the hipster, you are not alone. A hipster is someone who is too cool to conform to any social norms for no reason other than to applaud themselves for being so clever. They listen to bands you haven't heard of, not necessarily because they enjoy them, but because they enjoy your reaction when they tell you who to whom they are listening. They read Pitchfork, wear fanny packs, listen to vinyl, ride fixed gear bicycles, and find anyway to insult or belittle people who have to work because they haven't been given a trust fund from daddy.

Tiki Barber - For becoming the latest member in the elite club that Tiger Woods and Jesse James belong to. Tiki, who works for NBC, has recently left his wife who is 8 months pregnant with their twins, for a “hot” 23 year old NBC intern. Traci Johnson, the intern, and Tiki had been operating under the disguise that she was babysitting the Tiki’s kids.

Bryan A. Trippler, INTERIOR COMMUNICATIONS ELECTRICIAN THIRD CLASS (E-4), U.S. NAVY - Bryan stole a couple of flash drives that were left unattended, found some seemingly provocative photos of the female owner on them and attempted to use them to extort money or “special services” from her via fabricated facebook and email accounts (JustDoAsISay@yahoo.com was the created email account).

D-Case Coming Attraction of the Week

That's not to say that it's coming out this week, just that I thought it was worthy of posting...

Friday, April 9, 2010

D-Case of the Week, April Wk1: Hank Johnson and Shaun Rogers

This week there was a tie between Cleveland Browns' D-Tackle Shaun Rogers and Congressman Hank Johnson...Because the Cleveland Browns’ 350 pound defensive tackle was arrested last week at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport when he tried to board a plane with a loaded, .45 caliber, semi-automatic hand gun. Rogers has plead not guilty to the gun charges because he did not mean to take it in his carry-on.

Because the US Marines are apparently planning to relocate like 9,000 troops and their families to Guam, so there's Congressional hearings about it and such and Congressman Hank Johnson was speaking to a US Admiral when he expressed reservations about adding the troops to Guam because “My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize”

The D-List: April Week 1

Shaun Rogers - Because the Cleveland Browns’ 350 pound defensive tackle was arrested last week at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport when he tried to board a plane with a loaded, .45 caliber, semi-automatic hand gun. Rogers has plead not guilty to the gun charges because he did not mean to take it in his carry-on.

Republican Nat'l Committee - For authorizing spending nearly $2,000 for a party at a Hollywood-themed adult nightclub in Los Angeles. AND because the party sent out a census-themed fund-raising appeal that inadvertently gave out a phone number that rang back to an adult chat line.

Kenyon Martin- For his reaction to an April Fool's prank in which someone put popcorn in his truck... "That ain't no [expletive] joke," Martin said. "I'm going to find out who did it ... put my [expletive] hands on one of y'all. I'm going to put my hands on whoever did it. You better believe that. It's [expletive] personal. You better believe it." And even went on to say "How 'bout if I don't play in the playoffs until somebody tells me who did it."

U.S. Congressman Hank Johnson - Because the US Marines are apparently planning to relocate like 9,000 troops and their families to Guam, so there's Congressional hearings about it and such and Congressman Hank Johnson was speaking to a US Admiral when he expressed reservations about adding the troops to Guam because “My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize”

Andray Blatche - for doing almost anything in his power to get his 10th rebound to reach a triple-double in the final minute of the Nets/Wizards game on Sunday. Blatche’s actions personified the D-Case way in its entirety. It all started when Blatche flung his body at a missed shot that he had no chance of getting, which ended in a foul call on Blatche, worsened when Blatche contorted his body in childish disgust after a teammate got to a rebound before him, exacerbated further when Blatche went as far to ask his teammate to miss a free throw to allow him to get his 10th rebound, and was all capped off when Blatche frantically attempted to dribble the length of the court in the last 4.2 seconds of the game to try and intentionally miss a shot and get the rebound. Thankfully Blatche was unsuccessful in all of his attempts.

Washington Redskins - for not having the decency to tell their now former starting QB Jason Campbell that Donovan McNabb had been officially traded for. You can’t fault the Redskins for making the move, you can however fault them because the news had to be broke to Campbell from a reporter calling Campbell to get his take on the trade.
Reporter: Did you hear about what happened?
Jason: What?
Reporter: The Redskins traded for Donovan.
Jason: Really? Ummm... I didn't know that, man.
Reporter: I'm sorry I had to be the one who told you. I can't believe they didn't tell you.
Jason: No, that's the first I heard of it. ... I'd better go call my agent.

The FCC - for insisting on interfering when they are not needed nor wanted. They lost a Supreme Court ruling today on "legislation" they passed 2 years ago in regards to how ISPs provide service to their customers. It appears they are taking the defeat gracefully and changing the rules of the game. Their new motion is to change the classification of the internet to a "phone" service.

2 German Females - Two women were arrested in Liverpool for trying to fly their dead relative home as opposed to filling out the annoying paperwork necessary for repatriating deceased bodies. They asked an attendant for help putting the dead man (who they put sunglasses on) from a vehicle to a wheel chair. When the man was unresponsive at security check points, emergency personnel were alerted despite the women reassuring that “he always sleeps like this”.

D-Case of the Month - March: The Hutaree Militia

Nine members of a fringe Christian militia group (the group’s web site states that Hutaree means “Christian warrior”) based in Michigan. The group has been indicted on 5 counts including attempted use of weapons of mass destruction. Their plan was to murder a police officer, then attack the funeral party with explosives and other weapns. Again, according to the group’s web site, they are “Preparing for the end time battles to keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive”. No one was injured (at least in regards to this plan).

Aleksandr Zoubkov - for his obvious glee at a Canadian crash followed by his realization that he was on TV and his complete fake change in demeanor

Andray Blatche - For allegedly "just not wanting to play" according to Flip Saunders (coach of the Washington Wizards). According to the article: To make matters worse, Wizards Coach Flip Saunders benched starting forward Andray Blatche after he played just 7 minutes 31 seconds. Saunders said he pulled Blatche initially to discuss the player not getting back on defense but that Blatche refused to listen to the coaching staff.Saunders said his assistants attempted to talk to Blatche about the situation multiple times but that Blatche's response was he "just didn't want to play."

Eric Massa - Former congressman Eric Massa initially left office due to “illness”, then alleged he was being “forced out”, then used the catch all excuse of wanting to get out of the “toxic” environment of D.C., then reports of him having tickle fights with young male staffers surfaced. Massa verified those reports and elaborated to say multiple young staffers were involved and that groping was involved but it was “okay” because it was his 50th birthday. Other shenanigans he liked to undertake with his underpaid staffers, that he kept close in a living space that he facilitated for all of them, were his self-trademarked “Massa Massages” and “snorkeling”, a bedtime under the covers activity. When asked if he was gay he said he wouldn’t answer that question but to ask his wife and the 10,000 guys he served with in the Navy.

Jesse James - husband of Sandra Bullock, for cheating on his wife for the better part of a year with a biker model Michelle “Bombshell” McGee while Bullock was filming “The Blind Side”. Reports have also surfaced now that this isn’t James’s only infidelity and that he posted internet ads seeking “biker models”.

Lindsay Lohan - For filing a $100 million pain and suffering lawsuit against E-Trade for their newest baby-trader commercial that features a girl baby “milkaholic” who is referred to as Lindsay. Lindsay’s attorney claims that “They’re using her name as a parody of her life. Why didn’t they use the name Susan? This is a subliminal message. Everybody’s talking about it and saying it’s Lindsay Lohan.” Her attorney has also asserted that “Lohan has elevated ‘Lindsay’ to the same sort of one-off recognition status as ‘Madonna’ or ‘Cher’.”

Nancy Pelosi - For urging that the health care bill to be passed so we can see what’s in it. Pelosi stated that Congress "[has] to pass the bill so you can find out what's in it, away from the fog of controversy." Similar to other claims that voters will like ObamaCare better once it’s passed and they get used to it.

Russian Olympic Committee - for their epic failure to obtain their predicted 40 medals (they actually got 15) and for the embarrassing hockey loss to Canada. In addition, now the Russian president is highly encouraging many of the Russian coaches to show the courage to step down due to their incompetence.

Torii Hunter - For referring to black latino baseball players as "imposters" while in the same breath claiming that "where [a player] was born and raised makes no difference." Torii also stated a theory that African-Am players have that "baseball can go get an imitator and pass them of as us...It's like 'why should I get this kid from Chicago and pay him $5 million when you can get a Domincan guy for a bag of chips?'"

Thompson stated that ``You never know with Tim…he can bolt. You'll think he's running, but then he'll just come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready at all times. With Brantley, everything's with rhythm, time. The Truth: Don't Get D-Ripped

Some helpful advice from the D-Council...

The D-List: March Week 5

The Hutaree Militia - Nine members of a fringe Christian militia group (the group’s web site states that Hutaree means “Christian warrior”) based in Michigan. The group has been indicted on 5 counts including attempted use of weapons of mass destruction. Their plan was to murder a police officer, then attack the funeral party with explosives and other weapns. The Catholic Church - This priest thing is getting completely inexcusable. Further, allegations are being reported of the Pope’s knowledge and involvement in some of these cases prior to his becoming Pope. I’m not going to go into this any further, but what a bunch of soul-less D-cases.

Santonio Holmes - for hitting a woman in the face with a glass full of liquor, cutting her near the right eye, at an Orlando nightclub earlier this month. Holmes allegedly then offered to pay her so she would not press charges, she currently wants $15,000 in damages. In the lawsuit against Holmes the woman said she was intimidated into not pressing charges.

Urban Meyer - For lashing out at Orlando Sentinel sports reporter Jeremy Fowler and threatened to ban the Sentinel entirely from all things Florida football for his reports regarding Florida WR Deonte Thompson’s comments about former Gator QB Tim Tebow and the current QB for the Gators. Thompson stated that ``You never know with Tim…he can bolt. You'll think he's running, but then he'll just come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready at all times. The artist who painted this mural of Jonathan Toews - See the article for a picture, but to sum things up, Jonathan Toews is the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) and the mural is in Chicago above the freeway there. It's D-Case worthy for the insanely hilarious nose the artist gave Toews. Secondarily, it's also stupid because he's pictured with the Stanley Cup despite the fact that the Blackhawks haven't won the cup and haven't played in the NHL finals for quite some time.

Pontius Pilate / Judas - D-Cases, the end.
